Most recently we worked with two Canadian architectural groups in the design of the new federal government, proto-typical, 96 Bed Maximum Security Living Units planned for construction in Canada. There are a total of five units planned for construction in the near future.

The first of these projects is now being tendered and will be constructed at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary and Institution in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The architectural group on this project is, Coupland Kraimer Architecture and Interior Design. The project architect is David Coupland and he can be reached at: Phone (403) 269-7109, Fax (604) 269-7595 in Calgary, Alberta.

The second project in the final planning stages will be tendered in 2006. The new Maximum Security Living Unit will be added to the existing federal facility at Kent Institution in Agassiz, British Columbia. The architectural group on this project is Stantec Consulting Ltd. and the project architect is Jerry Frank. He can be contacted at: Phone (604) 698-8020 or Fax (604) 696-8100 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

These facilities are comprised of ninety six, long term holding cells complete with a maximum security, electro- pneumatic sliding cell door, at each cell and twenty maximum security electro- pneumatic sliding corridor barriers. Various other electro-pneumatic and mechanically operated swing doors are located through out the buildings.

Petra Detention Group Inc. was instrumental in the design and lay out of the entire electro-pneumatic locking system. This included the head end pneumatic supply system and the Remote Manual Emergency Release System.

Individual cell doors are completely remote controlled for normal daily operation. Doors can be manually operated in the case of power outages and can also be remote gang unlocked pneumatically in the case of an emergency.

Correctional Services Canada (CSC) requires that inmates be restrained with hand cuffs prior to being transported. The cuffs must be applied while the
inmate is still in the cell. CSC requested that the door be designed to open six inches and lock in this position. The inmate will extend his hands through the
opening and the cuffs are applied. The inmate can then be secured, the door is opened fully and the inmate is removed from the cell. This feature was not commercially available prior to this design team request.

PDGI partnered with Airteq Systems Inc. and Delco Automation Inc. a local controls contractor to design the new special feature (Cuff Mode Operation, CMO) to include the CSC requirement at each sliding cell door. This feature has been incorporated into these facilities and is now a CSC Standard.

PDGI will provide both electro-mechanical and electro-pneumatic locking systems however experience has taught us that pneumatic locking systems are less expensive to install, require less maintenance and the electrical consumption and cost to operate is far less than the electro-mechanical systems.

In compliance with Division 11 Specification Sections we offer the following qualifications. (Two detention facility projects of similar character and magnitude.
